How we verify contractors

Most states don't license "foundation repair" as its own trade. A general, residential or specialty contractor license can cover the work without saying so. That means a valid license alone does not tell you a business repairs foundations. We therefore require two separate signals before we publish a listing.

1. A credential record

Where the state licenses or registers contractors, we look the business up in the official public record and store the exact status wording the board uses (for example "CLEAR" or "Current, Active"), the license number and classification, a link to the source and the date we checked. We don't translate that into a generic "licensed" badge. Where a state has no license for this work, the listing says so and asks you to check local permits.

2. Dated service evidence

Each service shown on a listing (foundation repair, basement waterproofing or crawl space repair) needs its own dated source. Acceptable sources are the contractor's own website service page, a self-submission we confirmed by email or phone, a manufacturer installer locator used within its terms, or a board specialty classification where one exists. A business name alone is never enough. Each source is linked on the profile with the date we checked it. If a service has no evidence, it isn't shown.

What a listing does not tell you

What we publish, and what we don't

Public listings show the business name, city, ZIP-code area, services with their evidence and credential details. We don't publish owner or qualifier names, street addresses, phone numbers or email addresses. We don't display third-party ratings or reviews.

Thin pages stay out of search

Every county and city page lists the businesses that serve it. We treat a business as serving its own county, the counties bordering it, anywhere within60 miles of its city, and counties where its permit records show foundation work. This is an estimate, not a confirmed service area. A page is indexed when at least 3 businesses serve it, or when fewer serve it and at least one is based in the same county. Pages with no business serving them show the nearest listings with their distance, are marked noindex and are left out of our sitemap. Distances are measured between city-level points, not street addresses.
